Bigger Changes in Gangneung in 2023 with Introduction of Resident-Oriented Policies

- 500,000-won subsidy for hiring a full-time employee, bus fare subsidy for those aged 65 or older, and other changes for those living in Gangneung -

  

Gangneung City will be offering benefits that will liven up and enrich people’s lives in order to realize the vision of Citizen-centric Active Administration as Gangwon’s No. 1, Happy Gangneung.

 

In the new year of 2023, enterprises hiring a Gangneung resident as a full-time employee will be eligible to receive up to 500,000 won a month, and young entrepreneurs will be provided a subsidy of 10 million won to pay for the initial business costs.

  

Gangneung Pay Card with a QR code service and transportation card service will be introduced, and city bus fares will be subsidized for seniors aged 65 and older. There will even be a dementia testing task force visiting people to examine them for signs and symptoms of dementia.

 

The Gangneung Policy Changes in 2023 containing a total of 73 citizen-oriented policies in areas of Maritime Silk Road Economic City (17 policies), which is the city administration goal of the 8th Gangneung City Council; Smart Tourism City Across Four Seasons (10 policies); Creative Culture and Arts Education City (6 policies); Vibrant Agricultural and Fishery Production City (14 policies); and Welfare City Enjoyed by All (26 policies) will be published as a booklet and e-book.
Among the new policies, the 10 policies unique to Gangneung that are most impactful on people’s lives were produced as an infographic for people to see and understand the information more easily.

Also, the space that will be newly created in 2023 can be checked on a map, and information such as increased public charges and admission fees with reduced discount rates, as well as changing systems and regulations, are provided.

  

An official from Gangneung City said, “By successfully winning the bids to host international events such as the 2026 ITS World Congress and Korea-Taiwan Tourism Exchange Conference in the past six months, we have created a stepping stone to be among the world’s top 100 tourist cities, and we have done our best to revitalize the local economy by ensuring fast and accurate licensing and permit issuance, promoting private investment, and boosting the construction economy. […] We will continue to listen to people’s voices from various fields to bring happiness to citizens and promote regional development and continually create living and tangible policies for Gangneung to become the best city in Gangwon-do, where there is overflowing happiness.”
