It doesn’t have to lead to famous attractions.

Wolhwa Street

• Wolhwa Street is a 2.6 km long walking trail built on an abandoned railway that starts at Gangneung Station and runs across the city center.
  The street is named after Wolhwajeong Pavilion,
  featured in the romantic love story between Muwollang and Lady Yeonhwa. Walking along Wolhwa Street shows you the many sights of downtown Gangneung.
  Along the road, you can find pretty sculptures, cafes, souvenir shops, and other cutesy places.
  The photo zones with old run-down railways are other areas of interest.
  An alley next to Wolhwa Street leads to Gangneung Traditional Market, so you can enjoy the city’s culinary offerings.

• Climb the zigzag stairs to Wolhwagyo Bridge for a good view overlooking Wolhwa Street.
  Below the bridge, Namdaecheon Stream runs through the middle of Gangneung’s city center. Like Wolhwa Street,
  Wolhwagyo Bridge is renovated from the old railway bridge.
  Fountain shows occur at certain times on either side of the bridge.
  Cross the bridge to arrive at Wolhwajeong Pavilion, which serves as the namesake of Wolhwa Street.
  A quiet forest trail connects Wolhwajeong Pavilion to Noam Tunnel.

• Wolhwa Street is a street of contrast where everything from old Gangneung to a lively city center and quiet nature can be found.
  At night, the street takes a new appearance. A colorful fountain show occurs along Wolhwagyo Bridge, while a night market is held at Wolhwa Street.

Myeongju-dong Alleyway

• You can find traces of the old Gangneung city center in Myeongju-dong Alleyway.
  The sculptures and murals installed along the alleyways make walking around the area feel like an outdoor exhibition.
  Explore the locals’ daily lives in these alleys.
  Alternatively, get a good seat in an alley cafe and watch people come and go.

  Myeongju-dong was the old city center of Gangneung because it was home to the former Gangneung City Hall and Joseon-era government office.
  Traces of its past can still be found today.
  The restored Gangneung Local Government Office is located across the Myeongju-dong Alleyway.
  Cafes and performance venues are housed in old mills and churches,
  so there are plenty of things to see in the area.
  Don’t miss the lovely flowerbeds and murals made by the residents.

  Dress up in your chosen outfit, along with matching bags and accessories, and step into the alleyway for a trip through time.
