End-of-the-year and New Year’s events for 2024

End your year on a high note and welcome the new year in Gangneung.
angneung is a famous site for sunrise-watching on the east coast of Korea, and end-of-the-year
and New Year’s events will be held on December 31, 2023, and January 1, 2024,
in Gyeongpohaebyeon Beac and Jeongdongjin Sandglass Park.

The events will kick off at 20:00 on December 31 with the “Good-bye Gyeongpo Night Sea Busking”
performances at the special stage established on Gyeongpohaebyeon Central Plaza,
followed by the new year’s countdown event.
A firework festival will take place at midnight on January 1, 2024.
The Gyeongpo Wish Lightening Zone also features a photo area
for commemorative photographs and New Year’s wishes in the pine forest.

End-of-the-year and New Year’s events in Jeongdongjin will start off
with the “Welcome 2024 Jeongdongjin Hope Concert” at 20:00, December 31,
on a special stage set up in Jeongdongjin Sandglass Park,
followed by the sandglass turning ceremony and the button push event.
A fireworks festival will also be held when the clock strikes midnight.
A photo area will be set up for New Year’s wishes at Jeongdongjin Wish Zone,
featuring a moon sculpture on which one can hang a wish paper.

New Year’s events will also be held throughout the coastal villages of Gangneung.
In addition, new year’s events will also be held from 6:00 of January 1
onward at Jumunjinhaebyeon Beach, Yeongjinhaebyeon Beach, Mosanbong Peak,
Woldaesan Mountain, Namhangjinhaebyeon Beach, and Chungapbong Peak.

Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games

Gangneung will host the Olympics once more after the 2018 Winter Olympics.
The Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games will be held
in four cities of Gangneung, Pyeongchang, Jeongseon, and Hoengseong from January 19 to February 1.
This is the first Winter Youth Olympics to be held in Asia.
The event will feature 7 sports and 15 disciplines, including skating, ice hockey,
curling, skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh, skeleton, and luge.

Gangneung will host five disciplines, including speed and figure skating, ice hockey, and curling.
Rekindle the passion and joy of the 2018 Winter Olympics through the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games.
All games are open to the public free of charge.
