Experience the romance of beautiful Gyeongpo Beach while enjoying performances and events at the 2024 Gyeongpo Summer Festival, held throughout the Gyeongpo Beach area. For a week starting on July 30, the special stage on the central sand beach of Gyeongpo Beach will host daily performances. There will be soulful live performances by artists like Ali and Min Kyung-hoon, soothing K-pop tunes, refreshing rock shows by Norazo, and dynamic hip-hop performances by rappers. The festival will also feature exciting activities such as a dazzling water performance show by a world champion flyboarder, water gun fights, arm wrestling competitions, and more, providing a variety of entertainment and attractions.

26th Jeongdongjin Independent Film Festival
This year, the 26th Jeongdongjin Independent Film Festival (JIFF) returns to the picturesque Jeongdongjin Beach in Gangneung. Held annually on the first weekend of August, this outdoor festival features a diverse lineup of independent films. The festival begins with an opening ceremony, followed by screenings of 2 feature films and 22 short films, totaling 24 films. The selection includes films that have gained recognition at major domestic film festivals alongside a variety of other works.
After the screenings, there will be opportunities for audience interaction, including Q&A sessions with directors and actors. Viewers can also participate in the audience-choice award, known as the “Cling-Clang Coin Awards,” where they vote for their favorite films with coins. Enjoy the romance of movies by the night sea at the outdoor cinema in Jeongdongjin.

Under the moonlight, embark on a journey through Gangneung’s traditional cultural heritage. For three days, from August 15 to 17, the “Gangneung Cultural Heritage Night” will take place at the Gangneung-daedohobu Government Office and Seobu Market area. As night falls, explore Gangneung’s cultural heritage through various historical and cultural activities connected to nearby cultural sites. The festival features eight themes, including nighttime openings of historical and cultural sites, exhibitions, hands-on activities, and performances. A festival highlight is the drone light show, which beautifully illuminates the night sky over Gangneung. Come and experience the unique charm of Gangneung’s cultural heritage on a midsummer night.
