About the Language Development Support Program for children of multicultural families
In the Language Development Support Program for children of multicultural families, the level of language development of children from multicultural families is evaluated, and they are provided with the necessary education so that they can use language at a level appropriate for their age. Parents should take an interest in their children’s language development so that they can receive the help they need.

Children aged 12 or under and elementary school students from multicultural families
Service details
STEP 2
Initial interview and evaluation
The child’s level of language development is evaluated by using an evaluation tool suitable for the child.
STEP 3
Decision on whether to provide education based on the results of the evaluation
STEP 4
Provide education for 6 months
- Twice a week / 40 minutes per session
- One-on-one classes and group classes with two or more students
- The program is initiated after setting the educational goals according to each child’s individual evaluation results.
- Parental counseling and education are provided to support children’s language development.
- The classes are focused on promoting language development by training children in vocabulary, syntax, communication, reading, and speaking skills.

- Required documents : Program application form, filming agreement, subject pledge, consent form for collection and use of personal information, consent form for provision of personal information to a third party, resident registration card, family relations certificate (those applying for priority selection must submit the necessary evidentiary document such as a beneficiary certificate, single-parent family certificate, disability certificate, employment certificate, or low-income family certificate)
This service cannot be used in combination with the speech therapy service (voucher program) or child living service.
Multicultural Family Interpretation and Translation Support Program
Interpretation and translation services are provided to marriage immigrants so that they can receive communication support for their families and in society. This service is highly recommended to multicultural families and institutions that face a language barrier.

Multicultural families and individuals or organizations that directly or indirectly support multicultural families in Gangneung

- Support for marriage immigrants in getting adjusted to the life in Korea and information on naturalization, sojourn, and assistance programs available to them

- Emergency support in case of a crisis
- Interpretation for family members
- Interpretation and translation services when using the services of administrative and judicial institutions
- Interpretation and translation services when using the services of public institutions such as hospitals, public health centers, police stations, and schools
Application Period
Applications accepted from Monday to Friday (the service needs to be booked in advance)
You must book in advance if the interpreter/translator needs to travel to provide the services.
A vehicle is not provided for services that require traveling.

Multicultural Family Home Education Service
Korean Language Education Service
This is a program where Korean language education services are provided in a systematic way according to the level of proficiency or each system so that the learner can learn everyday Korean language and understand Korean culture.
- Eligibility criteria
- A marriage immigrant who arrived no earlier than 5 years ago
- A child who migrated to Korea (24 years of age or under)
- Service details and period
- Korean language education levels 1 to 4
- Vocabulary, grammar, pragmatics, and culture
- Twice a week, 2 hours per session, once (10 months)

Parental education service
Provide parental education service to married immigrants who are having difficulties raising their children due to the language barrier and cultural differences
- Service recipients and criteria
- Once per stage (up to 15 months, 3 stages)
- Pregnancy, childbirth, and infancy stage (during pregnancy until 12 months after birth)
- Infancy (12 months old to 48 months old)
- Childhood (over 48 months old to 12 years old)

- Parental education for child rearing (parental growth, parent-child relationship, nutrition/health management, and school/home life management)
- Family counseling and emotional support service
- Other information necessary for living in Korea
- Twice a week, 2 hours per session, once (5 months)

Child Education Service
Providing child services to children of multicultural families
- Eligibility criteria
- 3 to 12-year-old children from multicultural families and children who migrated to Korea
- Service details and period
- Cognitive domain : reading coaching, homework guidance, and presentation and discussion guidance
- Self/emotion/society : guidance for self/emotion/social development
- Cultural competency reinforcement : cultural awareness, sense of identity, and community awareness
- Citizen education : lifestyle, health and stability, and family life
- Twice a week, 2 hours per session, once (10 months)

- Apply for government support to the eup/myeon/dong community center with jurisdiction over your place of residence
Korea Immigration & Integration Program (KIIP)
If you complete the KIIP, you can receive benefits related to immigration, such as visa, permanent residency, and naturalization.
Participation target
Foreigners legally residing in Korea and naturalized citizens with alien registration card or residence card
Except for those who were naturalized 3 or more years ago

Bilingual Family Environment Program
Promote parent-child interactions by creating an environment where children of multicultural families can communicate in the native languages of the mother and father at home and strengthen the parents’ competency to parent their children as a way to improve communication and emotional bond between the parents and children
