• A new tourist attraction featuring cutting-edge technology has opened near Gyeongpoho Lake in Gangneung. It’s a fantastic space where virtual and real worlds converge—the Gangneung Metaverse Center. As Korea’s first facility offering metaverse-based virtual reality experiences themed around winter sports and Gangneung, this center invites you to dive into a whole new dimension where the virtual world and reality blend. Come and immerse yourself in the experience!



• Spanning three floors, the Gangneung Metaverse Center features various themed attractions on each level. As you step inside, the 15 m-high Media Tower, rising all the way to the third floor, immediately draws attention. Its LED display showcases mesmerizing particle art visuals.



• In the lobby, the “Virtual Door” offers a gateway to a new world. Simply closing and opening the door reveals a new digital realm, making it feel as though you could be drawn into the virtual universe in an instant.






• The first floor is divided into the Metaverse Technology Hall and the Metaverse Sports Hall. The Metaverse Technology Hall is an interactive exhibition space where visitors can explore the core principles of metaverse technology and its real-world applications. LED and projection technology showcases the evolution of virtual reality from its early days to the present. The AI interactive zone, “Generative AI,” allows visitors to converse with an AI-powered chatbot, create custom AI-generated images, and capture photos with it.



• In the Metaverse Sports Hall, visitors can immerse themselves in Winter Olympic sports through cutting-edge metaverse technology. Activities include Alpine Skiing, Skeleton, Speed Skating, Bobsleigh, Snowboarding, and Curling, all in a realistic virtual setting.
• Among these, the most popular activity is Bobsleigh. Visitors wear VR headsets and ride an advanced 360-degree rotating simulator that provides an adrenaline-pumping experience, making it feel just like real bobsleighing. It’s as thrilling as an amusement park ride.



• In a speed skating game, up to three people can compete in a virtual world. If playing alone, you can race against a virtual character to test your skills. Since the experience requires you to assume a skating posture while running, it also provides a workout.
• Most sports have height restrictions, but curling has none, making it an activity the whole family can enjoy together.



• Upon exiting the sports hall, you will find the “AI Character Studio.” This photo service allows visitors to choose an animation style, have their photo taken, and transform it into a personalized AI character, which can then be printed as a souvenir.



• The second floor of the center features advanced visual attractions such as the Meta Immersive Zone and Meta Dream Theater. One of the highlights is “Memory of Photography,” a space that depicts the passage of time in nature on a circular display, symbolizing the essence of Gangneung’s time and space.



• At “Nature Odyssey,” visitors can take a virtual stroll through the AI-recreated landscapes of Gangneung.
• Designed like a real walking trail, the immersive visuals make you feel as if you’re surrounded by nature. At the end of the journey, tapping the hand-shaped icon reveals a display of fireworks in the night sky.



• The Meta Dream Theater’s “Illusion of Gangneung” creates an abstract representation of Gangneung through immersive digital art. Using AI technology, it showcases artistic visuals of Gangneung on an 8 m-high screen that extends across the floor and both side walls.



• The “Meta Experience” and “Floorline Interactive” in Meta Space allow visitors to move and complete missions in a virtual environment. Another fascinating feature is the “Volumetric Hologram,” where AI technology and an XR engine apply your real-time appearance and movements to a virtual character, offering a surreal holographic experience.
• The third floor is home to a cafeteria, Meta Play Zone, and educational space. The Gangneung Metaverse Center operates with a capacity of 150 visitors per session. As weekends tend to be busier, it is recommended to book online in advance.
