강릉시립미술관 기획전시 소장품전 『컬렉션 23』 “컬렉션(Collection)” 강릉시립미술관은 2023년 소장품 기획전시 『컬렉션 23』을 개최합니다. 강릉시립미술관은 2013년 개관한 이래로 예술적, 학문적, 역사적으로 소장 가치가 있는 작품을 조사, 수집, 연구하고 있습니다. 소장품 중 대표적인 ‘구입 작품’으로는 <박수근(朴壽根, 1914~1965) 목판화>가 있습니다. 강릉시가 주최하는 전국 규모의 미술작품 공모전인 신사임당미술대전은 2000년 처음 시작되어 올해로 24회째를 맞이하고 있으며, 신사임당미술대전 수상작 중 대상 및 최우수상 ‘귀속 작품’ 등도 소장품으로 구성되어 있습니다. 기획전시 『컬렉션 23』의 전시 작품은 미술관이 보유하고 있는 기존 소장품과 2023년에 새롭게 귀속된 신소장품을 중심으로 한 현대미술 작품을 바탕으로 합니다. 아울러 한국화, 회화, 판화, 서예, 문인화, 조소 등 다양한 장르의 작품을 선보입니다. “그 너머(Beyond)” 소장품 중 박수근 목판화는 박수근 탄생 100주년을 맞이하여 2012년부터 2015년 사이에 제작된 작가 사후 판화(Posthumous Edition)로 박광열 판화가가 원판을 수지 틀로 복제하여, 수제 한지 위 1판 1색의 유성물감과 평압 프레스로 프린트했습니다. 박수근 작가의 <노인과 여인>은 1958년 『신미술』 9호에 수록된 ‘한국판화협회 창립전’ 출품작으로, 작가가 최초로 발표했던 판화 작품입니다. 작품 속 인물들은 음각으로 새겨져 있으며, 전반적으로 원근감을 배제한 평면적 구도가 돋보입니다. 차영규 작가의 <몽 2001-25>은 전통 한국화에 기반하여 아교와 분채를 사용한 채색화 작품이며, 화려한 색채 속 섬세한 필치의 운용으로 몽환적 분위기를 자아내고 있습니다. 임만혁 작가의 <바다 이야기 09-4>는 종이 위 밀도 있는 채색과 더불어 목탄을 주로 사용하고 있는데, 인물화를 주로 작업하는 작가는 사람과 사람 사이의 관계를 파도 위 한배를 탄 가족의 모습에 투영하고 있습니다. 또한 황윤진 작가의 <Vanitas>는 작품 제목이 라틴어에 기원한 ‘공허’를 뜻하며, 작품 속 손가락 사이로 흘러내리는 와인을 통해, 물질적 허상을 갈망하고, 잡을 수 없는 허황된 가치를 좇는 인물들을 표현하고 있습니다. “확장(Expansion)” 강릉시립미술관은 올해 대대적인 ‘소장품 구입 공고’를 통해 소장품의 질적, 양적 확장을 도모하고 있습니다. 앞으로도 강릉시립미술관은 시민을 위한 문화·예술 향유 대표 기반 시설로 자리매김하고자 합니다. 나아가 지역 특색을 담은 기획전시 및 현대미술 작품 감상의 기회를 마련해 드리고자 합니다. 본 전시에서 소개되는 강릉시립미술관 소장품을 통해 동시대에 주목받는 현대미술 작가들의 작품, 그 너머 사유의 시간을 함께 경험해보시길 기대합니다. ■ 유지현(강릉시립미술관 학예사) Gangneung Museum of Art‘s Special Exhibition ‘COLLECTION 23’ with Featuring the Museum's Collections “Collection” Gangneung Museum of Art (GMA) is set to host a special exhibition titled 'COLLECTION 23', featuring its collections in 2023. Since its opening in 2013, GMA has been engaged in researching, collecting, and studying artworks of artistic, academic, and historical value. Among these collections is the notable ‘purchased artwork’, Park Soo-Keun(1914~1965)'s Woodcut. The Shinsaimdang Arts Exhibition, a nationwide art competition hosted by Gangneung City, initiated in 2000 and celebrates its 24th event this year. 'COLLECTION 23' will also include award-winning artworks from the Shinsaimdang Arts Exhibition, encompassing the grand and top prize winners attributed to GMA. This special exhibition is based on contemporary artworks, combining existing collections of GMA with newly acquired pieces by GMA in 2023. Additionally, GMA plans to display various genres, including Korean painting, painting, calligraphy, literati painting, and sculpture. “Beyond” Among the art collections, Park Soo-geun's woodcut prints are posthumous editions produced from 2012 to 2015 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth. The artist Park Gwang-yeol replicated the original plates with a resin mold and printed them on handmade Korean paper using one plate and one color of oil-based ink with a flat press. Park Soo-geun's "Old Man and Woman" was exhibited at the Korea Prints Association Foundation Exhibition and published in the 9th issue of Shinmisul in 1958. It was the artist's first announced printmaking work. The figures in the work are intaglio engraved, and the overall composition, excluding perspective, stands out with a flat layout. Cha Yeong-gyu's "Dream 2001-25" is a color painting using glue and mineral pigments and based on traditional Korean painting techniques. With delicate brush strokes in vibrant colors, the painting creates a dreamy atmosphere. Yim Man-hyeok's "Sea Story 09-4" primarily uses high-density coloring and charcoal on paper. As an artist who mainly works on portraits, he has reflected the relationships between people by projecting a family riding a boat on the waves. In addition, Hwang Yun-jin's "Vanitas" derives its title from the Latin word for “emptiness.” Through the image of wine flowing between fingers, it expresses characters who yearn for material illusions and pursue elusive and empty values. “Expansion” For this year, GMA has embarked on a major ‘acquisition initiative’ to enhance its collections both qualitatively and quantitatively. Furthermore, the Museum aspires to establish itself as a leading cultural and artistic institution for the community, offering special exhibitions that feature local characteristics and opportunities for the citizens to appreciate contemporary art.
