Getting a driver’s license in Korea
There are two types of driver’s licenses in Korea depending on the type of vehicle you want to drive.
How to get a driver’s license
- 1After passing the local driver’s license test
- 2If you have a foreign driver's license recognized by the Korean government (exempted from document submission and the driver’s license test)
After passing the adjustment test, you can exchange your foreign driver’s license for a Korean driver’s license.
- 3If you have a foreign driver’s license that is not recognized by the Korean government (exempted from the driver’s license test)
After passing the adjustment test and simplified test, you can exchange your foreign driver’s license for a Korean driver’s license.
Vehicle registration
You can register your vehicle at a car dealership by presenting the following documents, etc.
Vehicle Registration Application Form
Temporary Driving Permit and Temporary License Plate
Vehicle Registration Certificate or documentary proof of overseas vehicle purchase
Vehicle Inspection Certificate
Alien registration card or a copy of your passport
Automobile Liability Insurance
Vehicle registration application
Car ownership certificate
Car rental
To rent a car, you must meet the following requirements
At least 1 year of driving experience
International Driving Permit
Over the age of 21
Passport
