-Starting in August, a new policy mandates the use of white bags for combustible items and green bags for non-combustible items-

In preparation for the completion of a waste treatment incineration facility this coming September, Gangneung City is launching a comprehensive public awareness campaign aimed at reducing potential confusion and improving system efficacy to facilitate a seamless transition to the new waste disposal methods.

The shift from landfilling to incineration as our primary waste management solution will require a segregation process starting in August. This new process involves categorizing waste into two broad types, combustible and non-combustible (incombustible), each of which must be disposed of separately to ensure the efficient operation of the incineration facility.

Non-combustible waste encompasses items such as ceramics, broken glass, and shellfish shells, which need to be disposed of in green landfill volume-rate bags. Meanwhile, white general waste volume-rate bags (including reusable ones) should be used for combustible waste such as toilet paper, diapers, and various types of tea leaves (green tea, etc.).

As per the existing rules, food waste should continue to be separated into yellow volume-rate bags and RFID devices whereas recyclable items are to be collected in transparent bags.

To facilitate easy and sanitary disposal of small amounts of incombustible waste, we have introduced landfill volume-rate bags available in 5, 10, and 20-liter sizes. You can purchase these bags at existing volume-rate bag outlets, including convenience stores and supermarkets.

A representative from Gangneung City stated, "We will heighten the promotion of target waste and disposal methods to expedite the adoption of the new landfill waste volume-rate bags and maximize the incineration efficiency of our new facility."
